Categories and tags
Categories and tags help you organize your product catalog and make it easier for customers to find what they're looking for.
Understanding categories and tags
Categories create a browsable structure for your store. Think of them as the aisles in a physical store - they help customers navigate to what they want.
Tags are labels you can add to products for filtering and searching. A product can have multiple tags, making it easy to create collections like "New arrivals" or "Sale items."
Tip
Use categories for your main product organization, and tags for additional groupings that span multiple categories.
Creating categories
- From your admin, go to Products > Categories
- Click Create Category
- Enter the category details:
- Name - The title customers see
- Description - Optional text explaining what's in this category
- Image - A banner or icon for the category
- Click Save
Organizing categories
You can create a hierarchy with parent and child categories:
- Clothing (parent)
- Men's (child)
- Women's (child)
- Kids (child)
To make a category a child of another:
- Edit the category
- Select a Parent category
- Save your changes
Adding products to categories
- Open the product you want to categorize
- In the Organization section, click Add category
- Select one or more categories
- Save the product
Tip
A product can belong to multiple categories. For example, a "Blue Running Shoe" could be in both "Footwear" and "Athletic Gear."
