Product variants
Product variants let you offer different versions of the same product, like different sizes, colors, or materials. Each variant can have its own price, SKU, and inventory.
Understanding variants
A variant is a specific version of a product. For example, a t-shirt might have:
- Size variants: Small, Medium, Large, XL
- Color variants: Black, White, Navy
When you combine options, you create variant combinations - like "Small / Black" or "Large / Navy."
Tip
Only create variants when the options affect inventory or pricing. If options are purely informational (like gift wrapping), use custom fields instead.
Adding variants to a product
- Open a product in the editor
- Scroll to the Variants section
- Click Add option
- Enter the option name (e.g., "Size")
- Add the option values (e.g., "Small, Medium, Large")
- Click Save
The system will automatically create variants for each option value.
Adding multiple options
You can add up to three options per product:
- Click Add another option
- Enter the option name (e.g., "Color")
- Add the option values (e.g., "Black, White")
- Save the product
The system creates variants for all combinations. For example, 3 sizes x 2 colors = 6 variants.
Important
Be careful with multiple options - they multiply quickly. Three options with 5 values each creates 125 variants!
